Our Story
The August Silk® story begins in 2015 with our founder, Augustine Silk. Augustine had a dream to start a clothing line using the finest silks to create gorgeous, effortless pieces for women. She began researching silk production, from the mulberry leaves fed to silkworms to the intricate process of unraveling silk cocoons into delicate threads. Augustine became enchanted with silk and how it flows gracefully, feels cool and soft on skin, and adds effortless beauty to any outfit.
After learning everything about silk, Augustine partnered with a small family-owned mill that ethically produces 100% natural silk. She worked closely with their artisans to develop custom weaving techniques to achieve the perfect drape and sheen. Augustine then designed the first collection of August Silk tops and cardigans in her small downtown studio.
When August Silk launched, we were immediately popular with women looking for luxe, comfortable silk clothing. Our early customers fell in love with not only our products but also our commitment to ethical production. Over the years, the August Silk line has expanded into tunics, dresses, pants, scarves and more, but our focus on silk and ethical manufacturing remains unchanged. We now work with silk artisans around the world to handcraft our clothing and accessories.
Our Commitment to Silk
Silk has been cherished in China for millennia, and with good reason! Silk is the strongest natural fiber, so our clothing keeps its shape and stands the test of time. Silk is also temperature regulating to stay cool in summer and warm in winter. It has a beautiful drape that flatters all body types. Silk is also hypoallergenic and contains natural proteins that are actually good for skin.
At August Silk, we use the highest grade 100% natural mulberry silk available. We source our silk from ethical producers and never use cheap synthetic blends. Our artisans use traditional techniques to looms and dyes to create luxe silk clothing. You can feel the quality difference of August Silk pieces as soon as you put them on. The silk feels divine against your skin and flows beautifully with your shape.
Ethical Production
August Silk has high standards when it comes to ethical manufacturing. We carefully select mills and vendors that share our values around sustainability and fair labor practices.
Our silk is Oeko-Tex certified free from harmful chemicals. We banned toxic dyes and only use low-impact natural plant dyes. Our artisans use responsible waste management and recycle all leftover silk.
We pay fair living wages to all workers and never use child labor. We regularly audit factories and mills to ensure safety standards and ethical policies are upheld. When you buy August Silk clothing, you can feel good knowing that it was made with respect for people and planet.
